Christian

We believe God created everything, and it was good.

When the world became corrupted by sin and evil, God sent his own son, Jesus, to restore it. But Jesus was not received; they put him to death on a cross. But God raised him from the dead, vindicating his identity and mission. He then ascended to the right hand of God, and he will come again to restore God’s creation.

As Christians, we serve Jesus. All who trust in him will live forever in his kingdom, the new creation.

Biblical

The Christian Scriptures (writings) that make up the Bible determine what we believe and do as Christians.

Creedal

A Creed is a statement of faith. Early on, the whole Christian Church developed three: the Apostles’, Nicene, and Athanasian creeds. For nearly two thousand years, Christians have let these creeds define the true Christian faith, so we also learn them and confess them to be true.

Sacramental

We believe (with the early Christian Church) that God works mysteriously through water, bread, and wine, to give us his gifts.

In your baptism, God made promises to you: “You are forgiven” (Acts 2:38; Nicene Creed). “You are my child” (John 1:12; 3:5–6). Faith takes him at his word.

In Holy Communion, we truly receive Jesus’ body and blood for the forgiveness of sins (Matthew 26:28; 1 Corinthians 10:16).

Lutheran

We take our name from Martin Luther (1483–1546), a young professor of theology who dedicated his life to helping the Church reform its teaching. He never intended to start anything new. He simply helped to clear the weeds that had grown up around the pure Christian teaching of the early Church.

By embracing our Lutheran heritage, we commit to sharing Jesus and the Christian faith with the people of Carbondale, the Roaring Fork Valley, and beyond.
